It's all about lye

Artisan soap best cleanse for the skin

Ever wondered how is soap made from the scratch?

There are two classic methods to make soap: cold or hot process. Whether you use one or the other method, chemical reaction between fats and lye results in creating soap. When oil fats come in contact with lye, a chemical reaction called saponification takes place. During saponification, the lye and oil molecules combine and chemically transform into soap and glycerin. The saponification process can take 24-48 hours to be 100% complete. If the soap is formulated properly, the lye is used up in the saponification process to turn oil into soap. When soap is taken out of the mold and sits out for couple days it is safe to use, however it would give you much better soap experience if you wait curing period generally 4 weeks. It is during this time that any water evaporates leaving a harder and longer lasting bar.
